In a joint operation, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Zonal Unit Ludhiana and Crime Branch of Delhi Police have unearthed an international drug smuggling racket which was being run from Afghanistan under the garb of exporting apples into India via India Pakistan border at Attari in Amritsar. In this action 33.92 Kilograms of paper sheets soaked with contrabands like Heroin have been confiscated and according to sources the value of the seized narcotics is more than Rs. 100 crore.
Meanwhile giving more information about the operation, IRS Nitin Saini, Additional Director General of DRI in a statement said, “Acting on an intelligence jointly developed by the Delhi Police ( Crime Branch ) Delhi and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), a consignment of Fresh Apples imported from Afghanistan at ICP Attari on 22 September 2023 was intercepted and examined by the officers of DRI. The consignment totalled 2503 plastic crates of Fresh Apples. During examination, it was found that a thick yellow-colored paper sheet was carefully placed at the base of nearly all apple crates”
Saini also added, “The aforesaid paper sheets, weighing 33.92 Kg, appeared to have been soaked/layered with a narcotics substance. Accordingly, samples were sent to CRCL, which has confirmed presence of Heroin and other narcotics substances in the paper sheets. Therefore, the aforesaid 33.92 Kg of soaked paper sheets , recovered from the apple consignment, has been seized on 12.12.2023 under the provisions of NDPS Act, 1985 and fFurther investigation is in progress”
