Shortly after seizure of household goods from Ludhiana home of a hawala operator wanted by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) zonal unit Chandigarh on Friday raided a gym in Ludhiana which is owned by one of the accused in infamous Akshay Chhabra drugs case and seized gym equipment worth several lakhs which is believed to have been purchased from drugs money by the owner of the gym who too is accused in the drugs case.
According to a statement issued by NCB on the develpoment, "NCB-Chandigarh team which had apprehended a person namely Sandeep Singh alias Deepu with 20.326 Kg of Heroin on 15th November 2022 at Ludhiana , Punjab & registered Crime no 79/2022/CZU. Till date, interalia the following seizures have been made in this case 39.936 Kgs of Heroin, 0.557 Kgs of Opium, 23.645 Kgs suspected caffine powder, 04 bottles of HCL, 31 live bullets & 01 magazine, 02 factories/heroin processing hideouts of this group have also been busted . In this case 20 persons have also been arrested"
Statement also said, "One of the accused arrested is Gurmail Singh @ Garry, , who was a key member of the drug syndicate run by Akshay Chhabra. Till now, NCB Chandigarh has seized/freezed Movable/Immovable properties of this syndicate worth Rs. 52 cr. Approx. On 9th February , NCB Chandigarh seized goods worth Rs. 37 lakh approx. under NDPS Act from "Me vs Me Gym" GTB Nagar, 33 Feet Road, Mudian Kalan, Ludhiana, owned & run by Gurmail Singh. The Gym equipment was prima facie purchased from drug money generated from Heroin smuggling. Earlier on 04.02.2023, NCB Chandigarh seized goods worth Rs. 36 lakh from the house of Surinder Kalra under NDPS Act 1985. Further searches are underway in Ludhiana , Punjab"
