On Tuesday, Ludhiana MP & Indian National Congress (INC) leader, Ravneet Singh Bittu and other congressmen staged a protest against Punjab Government and Municipal Corporation (MC) outside MC's Zone-A office near Clock Tower. The protest aimed to express disagreements with the policies and workings of the ruling AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) Government in Punjab. Bharat Bhushan Aashu ( Former Cabinet Minister of Punjab) joined Bittu in the protest. Around 500 people gathered at the protest of which majorly were the supporters of. To prevent the situation from turning ugly huge police force was deployed at the protest site by authorities. Protesters holding banners like "Punjab Sarkar Murdabaad", "Jhuthi Sarkaar de Varis, Laarebaaz Kejriwal, Gappi Bhagwant Maan, Murdabaad Murdabaad" shouted slogans against Aam Admi Party (AAP) government and MC locked the gate of MC with chains. Addressing the protestors MP Ravneet Singh Bittu said, "In the last two years, Ludhiana Corporation has become a hub of corruption. In the past two years, essentially no developmental work has started. If the corporation's purpose is not fulfilled, we should lock it up. It has been almost a year, the current government in Punjab has failed to conduct local body elections. They are essentially depriving residents of electing their councilors and getting developmental work done in their wards" Bittu also added, "I am continuously monitoring them, writing about them, but despite my repeated requests, officials have not taken any action. Today, due to the negligence of corporation officials and not providing utility certificates, the amount given by the Indian government as an incentive has been stopped. Funds allocated for the maintenance of green areas along the roads were misused by officials. FIR should be lodged against responsible officials for causing damage worth 14 crore to fencing near Budda Nullah. The city bus service is already in a dire state" Bittu also demanded answer from AAP government on why 10 lakh blue cards were cancelled and why government has stopped the door-to-door ration scheme. The protesters also raised several other issues including lack of doctors in government hospitals, non fulfillment of AAP promise of giving Rs. 1000 per month to the women in the state, no new developmental project floated in last two years by MC. Meanwhile according to some members of the public the protest was just a drama before the Lok Sabha elections, while from the protesters point it's an attempt to awaken the sleeping government. District Congress Committee president Sanjay Talwar, former MLAs Surinder Dawar and Rakesh Pandey, former mayor Balkar Sandhu, Shyam Sunder Malhotra, Ishwarjot Cheema, Happy Lali, Manisha Kapoor, Ripu Gill , several councilors, block presidents, and workers were also present in the protest.
